Opportunities at Smith-Gilbert Gardens

Volunteers

Volunteers are essential to the operation of the Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Volunteers assist with and often teach garden programs. They train as docents and lead tours. They also help with upkeep and horticultural projects. Many of our volunteers are Cobb County Master Gardeners, although you do not have to be one to become a SGG volunteer. You may become an official Friend of the Cobb Master Gardeners and work alongside and learn from them as they work. SGG is very proud that volunteers who began working in our gardens are now in training to become Master Gardeners themselves. We are actively seeking new volunteers from the community.

Our current garden volunteer work schedule is:

  • Tuesdays (in season) - Rose Garden volunteers, approximately 9:30am
  • Wednesdays (in season) - Plant-A-Row for the Hungry Vegetable Garden volunteers, approximately 9:30am
  • Thursdays (year-round) - General garden maintenance, approximately 9am (earlier in summer)

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the SGG office at 770-919-0248 for more information and a volunteer application.

Docent, or tour guide classes are offered in August and March. Please call the Smith-Gilbert office at 770-919-0248 for more information.
